I have a 1963 chevy pickup an I put a sbc 350 in it an I need help with hooking the battery up I got the v-8 wiring harness but I heard you have to hook the battery back the way it was at that is postive ground an - on the hot side. If anyone knows what I'm talking about could you help an if u need more info just ask me an thanks for the help

so in 1963 they came out with neg ground

Chevy has been neg ground for yearssssssssss before 63. Even the 50 model stuff was neg ground...Joe

Chevrolet has never been positive ground...they have always been negative ground. You might be thinking of early GMC trucks which were positive ground.

A big red cable goes to the starter solenoid and a big black cable attaches to the engine block or a mounting bolt on the starter.

The positive post on the battery is a larger (top post style) diameter than the negative post. Both post are usually marked with a + and a -.

If Chevrolet ever did produce a positive ground vehicle, it was when Moses was a small boy! Good luck!

A lot of people are wrong.

So hook the battery cables up like u would a newer model car an it will not fry my wires are anything. because all the wiring under the hood is new an do not want to replace them.

you got it, the generator doesn't change anything, and unless you short something out, nothing can fry yer new wiring, certainly not the polarity, which as said above has always been negative ground on Chevys

Not to but in, but the neg cable on the battery gets grounded to the grill support panel. The pos cable connects to the starter, but also has a small wire that runs across the grill support panel and comes out at the voltage regulator and connects to what looks like the horn relay. Hope this helps, I own 2 1966 Chevy trucks. If you have all new wire harnesses and new battery cables, then you do not have to worry about this wire, everything will work fine.
