Hello all,
New to Stovebolt and I got to say I love it. Question for you vets though. When I bought my 50 3600 the guy I bought it from had already took the 216 apart and just threw it in the bed of the truck. I have already taken the block to the machine shop and had it vated and checked for cracks. They wanted to bore it to put the score pattern back on the cylinder walls but I had them hold off since the pistons I have are rusted away and wasnt sure how easy I could find oversized pistons or original ones period. My question is my neighbor gave me a 235 I believe out of a 55 and told me I could use it,is this true? How much could I use of it? Hopefully you guys can help me, I would rather not take it apart and ruin it if anyone else could use it or maybe I could swap with someone for a 216. anyways thanks for the help in advance.

Pretty much none of the parts interchange, but new pistons are pretty readily available. I'm sure somebody will want to trade you a running 216 for a 235, though. If you have patience you can often find good running 216s that you don't have to rebuild to use.

use the 235 and let them keep your old motor unless you want a motor with low oil pressure and babbit bearings that you cant replace the 235 is hard to beat and will fit right in you would want to use the 235 manifolds also but good luck ether way

You can use the valve cover from your 216 on the 235. The other 99% of the world who are not stovebolt fans or judges will never know! Seriously, it depends on how you want to use it. If it is important to you to keep it stock then the 216 for sure. If you want a freeway driver, you would need at least a 235, redo the tranny and/or rear or add O.D., get radials and disc brakes.
