For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 25 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 25 | Well its late in the evening and I am doing what I do most evenings after the kid goes to bed....Dreaming of getting my Rat on the road.
Anyway, Im 100% new to this sight as of today and so far I am liking what I see. I cant wait to yank my original 1958 stovebolt from between the rusty rails of her pickup chassis and rebuild it to run another day.
As of today the motor is mud and rust covered and I havent even so much as searched for a serial number yet (Still reworking the cab) But from what I can see, and from the little that I know about the motor, it looks to be "mostly" complete. Carb down. Im a Diesel Mechanic by trade, and, from using the search button as recommended by Forum, I have found multiple postings about the need to heat the inlet manifold on "our" stovebolts.
Is this all stovebolts? Will my 58 truck stovebolt fall under this requirement? Is it already plumbed factory? What are the benefits here, Im from the "Cold air kicks hot airs [censored]" thought group.
Ahh, I feel my Stovebolt training is about to begin the hardway! Thankx for any help guys, cant wait to be an honest member of the stovebolt family! | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 424 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 424 | Welcome to the neighborhood. You're gonna like it here! The wealth of knowledge at this site is incredible and we try hard to help each other out. Goodness knows, I've certainly gotten my share of help.
There are two things you should know:
1. We love to see pics!
2. This site runs on donations so if you find this site is useful to you please donate if possible. We want to keep it going! It's awesome!
There is no need to heat the factory intake. The discussions you saw were only for aftermarket, usually multi-carb manifolds.

The heat riser valve on my 1955 IH 1/2 ton got stuck closed once and my carburetor turned into a solid block of ice. It was quite noticeable because cylinders started missing, one at a time, until there were maybe two left and I decided to pull over and investigate.

You need to get a photo hosting thing set up and post links to those photos. There are several free places that host photos, Webshots seems to be most popular around here. I pay $27 a year for my pBase account. I believe the FAQ has more detailed instructions on how to link up photos... it's pretty simple. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 | 57Rat, I too am not good at postin till I tried this site .
