He said there are ways to adjust certain 6v generators to give 8 or 10 volts. He said he's done this several times on tractors and says the coil will run hot but hasn't burned any up yet. Does this sound possible? What else would you change, voltage regulator? Getting 8 volts would be no problem, just adjust the output at the regulator. I've never tried to get 10 volts so can't speak to that. Sounds like a bandaid "fix" for a larger problem to me.

| | | | | Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 190 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 190 | From experience I can tell you that if your going to start upgrading from 6 volt, then go all the way to 12 and enjoy the difference in cranking power, 12 volt battery availabilty, 12 volt regulator availability that doesnt have to be tampered with etc, etc. You can still keep original apperance of the starting and cranking system if done correct.
