yes, with a lot of drilling and cutting, they're spot welded in

The factory assembly manual shows all the attachment points and spotweld locations. Lot's of work!

49 chevy man,

I have done this task! You will need two cabs. One cab is destroyed, saving the dash, while the other dash is destroyed saving the cab.

Well put Stuart. Repop dashes are now available so you should be able to cut away the rot/damage and patch it using the replacement. Pricey at over $300.00 though.
