Well her it goes. My maiden voyage. I am taking my truck to work(45 miles one way). I have gone through all the systems and changed all the oils. Done front wheel bearings today and checked brakes. Looking good. A little water under the oil cap but I steam cleaned the engine a couple of weeks ago and haven't drove it much since then. Hope the water goes away. New rear end oil. Fresh paint(flat black acrilic enamel). New oak wood without strips. Oiled with toung oil. Looks good. Can't wait to start new life with my old stove bolt.( 1965 C10 short step)

I made a 500 mile round-trip last week with my '63. No problems at all (just a lot noisier than my newer truck). I drove about 250 miles home with only one stop for gas. Got lots of thumbs-up from people who seemed to enjoy seeing the old gal on the road. The visit was to see an old friend who is into Studebakers. He has a nice '50 bullet-nose and a really nice '55 Speedster/President. Glad that you are getting to enjoy driving your truck. I definitely enjoy mine!!

Got to love the noise, growls, no air or power accessories...gives character and makes the ride more fun. In my opinion, its more like the good old days...

Saw a guy in traffic on the road last week in an Advanced Design pick-up. I started honking and waving and giving the thumbs-up like an idiot. I'm pretty sure the guy thought I was nuts . . .

I don't think my maiden voyage will be 45 miles. I believe I'll just drive around town until I know she's ready to hit the road.

Yeah Woody I read that thread and was thinking the same thing. How was that maiden voyage?

Well it went really well. Front tires need balancing, but other than that it was great. You get a strange feeling of slowing down and enjoying life when you drive these old trucks. This one came from south GA. and I could almost feel that farmer driving down those laneless roads to town going to get whatever they go to town to get in those days. It was great. Thanks for all the help and coments in the past 6 weeks. There is still lots to do but at least its drivable now and the garage is clean. The 6 cylinder runs amazingly good by the way. What a feeling.

Just found out my truck has a 1975 250 nova engine in it. Was trying to buy cap and rotor and couldn't find the right one. Had to look up engine numbers and match caps. This is wierd. You never know what or where your truck has been in the past.

I love to drive down a country road, especially in the fall with all the leaves turning, in an original vehicle. It was like a trip back into time always ruined for a brief moment with an occasional newer vehicle passing by.
