Happy New Year
Is there anybody out there that has ever installed a Toyota ps box on the frame of your truck and used your original steering column? I sure would like to see how its done!!!!!!
The main reason I bought the toyota box is because I read somewhere that you could use the box and keep my original column with a few changes like the length and change the pitman arm.
My truck is a 1948 triftmaster but I am keeping the front axle for the originiality and looks. I would just like to have ps on it along with my 327.

Thanx Waldo, Ive seen that article before. It works well except for the ps gearbox, because the Toyota gearbox mounts in the same place as the original truck gearbox on top of the frame.
Suppose to be easier job...lol

I did the Toyota conversion on a 56 Ford, my 56 3100 and recently assisted with another one on a 55 Cameo. If you send me an email I can provide you with some information.

Hey Ross,
No such thing as intrusion, this place is full of help and wisdom. Go to the site: www.classicperform.com and go to the TECH area, scroll down to steering and there you will see diffrent ways of installing the ps box and columns. Im gonna keep my original column and install a Toyota ps gearbox that fits in the same place as the original box that came on my 1948.
I have to fab a bracket from the frame to the column which I found on e-bay(#300162732931)for land cruisers, but I have to extend the top of the bracket so I can move the box over beef it up and make little more room for my 327 and block hugger headers. After that you have to find a pitman arm that will work but I have ways of doing that also, later.

Hey Mike I am also interested in hooking up a toyota box to my 1950 chevy truck. I also have a small block engine and will need to move the box forward,how did you hook up the box to the spindles. Do you have any pictures?

Hey John,
I was just reading thru and saw your question.It's been a while but since I spoke about the steering question the only thing I have done is remove the cab from the frame. I did however go ahead and get my steering gearbox made up to support the box on the frame. The way it looks to me is the bracket will be in the same place as the old manual steering box. I'm starting to install my shocks and brackets now then the fuel tank, after that hopefully will be the POWER STEERING brkt. I think I can put it on the frame without the cab............????????????????????????? not sure.
