Got up this morning going to get out an antique and take my Dad for a drive. We usually take a model T or an old motorcycle, as I am making preps to get out the T. Dad says lets take your truck, well I just polished it up over the weekend. Why not. We took it nice and easy and did a 50 mile loop around our coast line, beautiful weather here in L.A. today and the old girl ran like new :-)Took the freeway home and she just pured at 60 mph. Dad's 85 now and it wont be long before he wont be able to get up in the truck any more, but we had a good day today. Oh yeah on the coast this morning we saw a beautiful 41 - 46 Chevy I think a 1 ton, dark green cruising the same thing we were - nice! We do the drive often, but usually not in my truck - had a nice drive and time, had to share - Happy Holidays.

Nice Tom, Enjoy every chance you can, especially with your Dad. My Dad use to love to ride in them old trucks after he got to the point he could not drive anymore, sure wish I would have gone a lot more times with him than we did, sure miss him now. JIM

I'd like to be able to do that. Figgure if I take a couple weeks off, load up the 370 with 55 gallon drums and fill them all up with gas, pack a hand pump and a suitcase, I "might" be able to make it to my folks place. Maybe. :P

Have to see what the future brings, I sure would like to get another '65 3/4 ton. Would even trade my '00 GMC for it. grin Lil easier on fuel and time, just have to make it to KS before dad tries to brain himself trimmin trees, again.

I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things.
But thats just MY opinion!

Thanks guys, hey Jim - neat truck and a cool picture of your Dad with it. My Dad grew up in Deposit NY, though he has been in Cal many years now - 50 plus. But he still has fond memories of the farm he lived on. Take care.

You got that right Jim, I was born here in So Cal - I cant even handle our winters :-)Funny my Dad could not wait to get away from there when he was a kid. But now all he has is fond memories of the farm and the seasons, he misses it. I love So Cal - just wish it had about 11 million less people :-)That would sure make it easier on my antiques when trying to go for a drive. Though atleast in the 47 I dont worry about getting run over too often.

I picked up my 82 year old mother from her assisted living facility on Christams day for a ride up to the house in 'Ol Yeller'. Mom is part a of a four generation family get together. She just beamed when I showed up in the '52 1/2 ton.
People waved and gave the thumbs up on our short 5 mile drive. Such a pleasant experience.

Hey Mitch, I like old Yeller- cool truck and what a great photo. Liked your story and glad your Mom got a thrill out of the ride, way to go! Had my 47 out on the weekend in Pasadena, HCCA run. Hauled my T there on the freeway 60mph and I could not even feel the car was on the back. Should of seen the looks people were giving us - Funny stuff. Got to admit, I was pretty nervous.First time on the freeway with the T on. Looking in my mirros and still hoping the T was still there, seems to ride quite well though. Happy new year!
