It leaks like crazy when either in reverse or idle. Otherwise, no leak. You can see the streak start where I put it in idle down the driveway or when backing into the garage. Someome mentioned the idler gear, which makes some sense, but I am not sure why that would cause a leak. I see the "stream" coming out of the hole in the cover over the flywheel. Honestly not even sure whether it is leaking gear oil from the tranny or engine oil. I did have the rear main seal replaced a while back.
Any ideas?

Doesn't make much sense to be the tranny. If it is your rear main seal try this tech tip- tech tip Be sure to get the wick type seal with asbestos in it. Seals a lot better. Do it yourself- it is really easy to do. Then you know it is done correctly.

To me tranny oil smells much different than engine oil. What I've seen on the ground smells just like tranny oil.

there is suppose to be either a shield/slinger or a felt type seal in the front nose-cone of the tranny. Some have a helical cut groove in the tranny input shaft which when it is turning will sort of force the oil back toward the inside of the tranny.
Tranny gear oil will be a lot thicker and smell pretty bad as compared to the engine oil. If you are not losing any engine oil, I would definitely inspect the tranny.
There is enough good in the worst of us and enough bad in the best of us that it does not behoove any of us to criticize the rest of us.
