Hi! I'm new to the whole resto/custom truck world, and I have some questions regarding my '50 3100. Has anyone tried to put a S-10 rearend and suspension in an Advance Design? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the Stovebolt page ...

... Advanced Design body on S10 runnin'gear, they do that, but seems I usually see folks try to use the whole chassis from the long wheel base S-truck, though I am not necessarily advocating that. Are you planning to retain the original front end? What transmission?

To browse and find earlier discussions, go back to previous page and see that pull-down box at upper right, "Show topics from last (# of) days," and also look in "the lounge."

Best of luck.

Thanks Ed B.
I am thinking of using a Mustang II frontend with a 350/400 combo. I will most likely have to get a driveshaft made.

If you're set on the S-10 diff, in 1989 they started using a bigger unit, 7.625" if I recall. They weren't on all '89s, just started appearing then. They're not easy to tell apart from the 7.5" just by looking at the cover. You'll need a maximum of 4" backspacing on your rims to make the tires clear your bed.

I've heard a '72-ish Nova/Apollo rear axle is pretty much a bolt-in. I would bet that's a beefier unit, and available in a number of gear ratios. Get the speedo gear from the donor vehicle while you're at it, it might help down the road. '89 S-10s used an electric speedo so the "gear ratio" is stored in the ECM.

Fox I have an 88 Blazer rearend in my 38 and I think the dimensions are the same. It's the smaller Blazer not the full size. For the frontend I would suggest having a look here it is in Canada and close to you so you can probably save a few bucks on the exchange etc.

I am going to get some pictures onto my site soon of the retrofit. I have the whole frame boxed in front to back as some metal gets a bit thin after 64 years.
LOL

Thanks everyone.
John, I am most likely going to go with a macguyer's frontend. I've been on their site before. I hope my S-10 rearend works. Thanks again.
