This is a recently rebuilt engine that I'm partially disassembling so I can have my mechanic look at it before the warranty expires. Your probably aware of this but it might help one of the new guys. The clip on top of the oiler is a deflector, under the clip is a metering hole drilled in the top of the tube. The access oil is dumped back into the block through the drain hole in the head. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2422488820098611668kKpgfp Your oiler probably got broken off and they squeezed it shut to try and meter the flow. It looks to me like someone's attempt to increase the oil pressure to the rockers by restricting the overflow. Will it hurt anything? Probably not. The rocker oiling system isn't tight enough to hold high pressure anyway.

This spring, a friend of mine will be installing a 261 that has never been installed in a vehicle. We'll be taking off the valve cover and I'll check the oiler. Who knows, they might have pinched the rocker-arm oiler at the factory (maybe when testing the engine, after warm-up, to bring the oil pressure up to "factory specs". They wouldn't gain much though because the fitting is held in place between the rocker shafts with just spring pressure. It wouldn't take much in the way of oil pressure to leak past the connection. :hammering:
