| | THANKS!
For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | I’m going through a couple of United Motors 986443 Radios out of early 50's trucks and I'm having quite a time removing the old push buttons. I have one pushed back about almost 1/8” and the bar appears to have barbs that the knob is forced over. I don’t want to bend the push bars, which seems likely if I keep prying on the knob. Anyone experienced with these? Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

Then put the new ones in hot water before you install them. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Well, I think I got her figured out. I’m clamping the button in the vise and the slide just wiggles off. A couple of pics of todays exercise: http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2239948840098611668bBsFXT It works just like a new unit now that it has been completely disassembled, cleaned, lubed and adjusted. One more to go, but I know how it comes apart now. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

That way I don't have to exert too much force on the mechanism. That is a good looking unit. No mice in that one! | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | It's the "push buttons" that I was asking about Fred, the knobs come off nice and easy but the buttons are pushed on to the barb on the slide. I got her figured out so you can even use the old ones if you can get them cleaned up. There is a picture of how I got the buttons off without damaging either party. I took all ten buttons off and could use them again if I wanted to sand and buff them. http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2731935820098611668rsWvqP Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

I tried almost everything but destroying them and was going to be replacing with repops. I can now remove them, sand and buff them and should be able to reuse them too. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Glad it work out for you. Once these push button mechinisms are cleaned, lubed and freed up they work real nice and smooth. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL
