old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 17 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 17 | on my 1950 there is a rod that connects the park-brake to a cross bar that pulls the brake cables. The rod is in two parts. It kinda looks to me that there was a short bed rod, and an extention that fit into it, but I'm not sure. At any rate I bought a new rod and it is about ten inches too short, so I am thinking I need another piece (based on the broken piece I took out of there). The truck had some repairs in the past and I am not certain that the parts I took out are really original. Does anyone have some information about the rod(s) that connect from the park brake to the frame-crossing bar that actually pulls the brakes? Did I mention it is a long bed truck?

I’m not sure what you mean by long bed, mine is a 1950, 3604 (3/4t) all original. Scroll thru, there are a couple of pics in there: http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2872219070098611668JmjLaJ Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

I have the same truck as Denny but my rod is presently out of the truck. I restored all the components but have not reinstalled it yet. If this is the style you are looking for reply and I will measure it. One thing you will find when rebuilding or replacing parts is the repro clevis's available are usually shorter so you have to make some adjustments for length. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 17 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 17 | That is correct piece all right. I bought what I thought was a replacement from Jim Carter parts, but I only got one rod (51 inches long) instead of the two rods joined at that clevis hinge. I don't have the rod that has the T-shaped end (or maybe it's a pin through a hole, my old part is too badly rusted to tell). Did I get the wrong part? http://www.oldchevytrucks.biz/47_55/full.asp?page=86 (Part# MEB299) | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | Chances are you got the 3100 series stuff I looked through my Carter catalog but there is no drawing. Let me measure and shoot pictures of all my restored stuff. I will post it tomorrow with a link for you and you can then see what else you may need. Was the spring and wire clip that hold back pedal pressure on your truck? there is an S-clip, a long wire hook and a spring that attaches to the frame. I will shoot pictures of those as well. They attach to the clevis where the two rods come togehter under the truck. I will lay everything out like it goes together on my shop floor and then shoot the pictures for you. I noticed that my 3/4 assembly was significantly different then the 3100 items I saw available. The nice thing is you can fabricate replacements using readily available rods cut to length and the various pieces available form the vendors.

I ended up using threaded rod from the hardware store and spun on two bolts to hold the spring. It works fine and cost a fraction of the too short rod from Carters.
Don't read the directions, that'd be too easy.
