Hello,
I was just using POR-15 on the inside of my cab on the floor where the gas tank sits. I also used POR-15 on the back wall of the cab and some other areas that seemed to have been exposed to moisture in the past as a preventative.
Questions are:
Can I sand the POR-15 to remove some of the running from my paint job?
Can I prime over POR-15 with the same SEM self etching primer that I am using on some of the bare metal areas?

Thanks in advance for any help!
Brian

Sanding won't touch it.

If you want to top coat it you have to do it within 24 hours or it won't stick. Better to use an epoxy primer though.

Actually you can scuff POR-15, I've done this several times with 180 grit... I will sometimes use POR-15 just to fill minor pitted metal and sand back down to bare metal. It's best to prime while the POR-15 is tacky. I agree with using epoxy primer initially over the POR-15.

I used POR-15 along a corroded strip where the bed wood meets the side and front panels. I scuff-sanded the POR-15 and then applied epoxy primer over the top. It seems to be sticking just fine.

POR now sells a primer that you can spray over POR15 up to a few years later. Check their site.

read the instructions...

if you are going to top coat the POR-15, you need to "dust coat" it with the primer you will use... also, you can bondo over it if you need to.

Dont dust it too early tho, or it will bubble and crack... this makes a MESS!!!!

follow the instructions....

Thanks for all of your help...I sucked it up and took it back to bare metal and primed it. Lesson learned on being too carried away with POR 15. It just looked so nice on the chassis and cab floor.

here is the link to the POR15 primer

The text from the site

In response to many customer inquiries requesting a quick drying and easy-to-apply coating which enables a restorer to quickly topcoat POR-15® and other basecoats, we have developed POR-15® Self-Etching Primer.

With this product, you can even topcoat POR-15® that?s been in place for months or years.

POR-15® Self-Etching Primer is NOT a high-build primer, like POR-15?s TIECOAT PRIMER, but it can be sprayed or brushed on almost any painted surface and can be topcoated in 15 - 30 minutes. It bonds incredibly well to POR-15® Rust Preventive Paint, and all topcoats bond incredibly well to POR-15® Self-Etching Primer. It can be sanded lightly, and, if desired, multiple coats may be applied.

We strongly recommend this fine product, which we sell with our unconditional money-back guarantee of satisfaction. It is available in pints, quarts, and gallons as well as a large aerosol spray (15 ounces). In situations where you are topcoating a very old POR-15® finish, we first recommend a light sanding with any 280 to 320 grit paper.
