water pump adapter when to use

Ive seen these water pump adapters and was just wondering when one should use them?would i need one if im switching my 216 to a high press 1960 235?and where would you guess recommend to buy these at?

If you do not use the adapter and settle for the short shaft waterpump it will look like this:

The fan barely misses the balancer and is low in relation to the radiator. It works for me but only after adding a shroud to capture more wind. Individual results will vary. The adapter plate will move the fan up closer to the center of the rad. Here's another source for it:
