If renewing is what you want just sandblast them. That's how they came originally, but if pretty is what you're looking for have them powder coated yellow. Cost will be $125/200

I sanded mine to bare metal and then painted them with POR-15. They look good.

I pulled the leafs apart on a truck once, painted each leaf separately with POR15, then top-coated with chassis black. A lot of work for little reward.

Have then cleaned up and take to a spring shop to have holes punched in each end for Teflon pads. They will work better, be a lot quieter, and the ride will be greatly improved. Paint and assemble. Joe

No matter what you do they will eventually turn back to rust. Some things hold up better than others. A thin coat is best, its less likely to crack and flake off.

I took mine apart, sandblasted them and coated them with POR-15. Reassembled them and they look great. I just don't know how long they will hold up. POR-15 if really tough stuff, yet flexible.

No better smell than that of fresh paint. I've been building and painting cars/trucks for 47 years. Not gonna stop now.

Thanks everyone I think I'll just take them apart clean and paint. Also the suggestion on the nylon anti-squeak pads I will do as well.
