Ok ay i am 17 years old and i got a 62 chevy c-10 fleetside last october but didnt start driving it till january of this year. I rebuilt the carb, and got new wheels and tires for it, but i want somthing new under my hood, the engine is the orgianal stright 6, it still has the oil fillter and everything is stock. What would u guys do as a first step to giving this truck more power ? thank you.

How many miles are on it? Is it just tired and worn out, or is it in pretty good shape? Also, have you given it a good tune up? Points, plugs, condensor, wires, cap and rotor will help more than you realize.

If that isn't enough, you might check into upgrading the ignition. A Petronix ignitor or Langdon's mini HEI will help. Also dual exhausts are always a plus.

Hey Slick, don't get the idea that just because your engine isn't a big V8 that it won't run. A lot of those old sixes were running in the 10's 25 years before you were born. Yes, Slick...I said the 10's....that is still darn fast.

Tune it till it hurts, do the ignition suggestion, have the manifold split, and put a Holley 2 bbl on it. You WILL be surprised. Better yet all you friends will talk it up like no tomorrow and I remember how important that was at your age. IMHO, don't go with one of the common V8 swaps that you see everywhere. There are lots of things you can do to your 6 to give it a significant amount of oomph. Go to Inliners to see what CAN be done with these stovebolt 6s and a little creativity. Good luck on whatever you end up doin.
