Hey all,

I was wondering if this tool box holder was possibly part of the original equipment or added later? See it here:

The '53 1-ton is now running around the storage yard, but no brakes. Will be rebuilding the two front wheel cylinders soon.

That looks like a gas can holder to me, with slots for the strap. I dont think they came from the factory with 'em (could be wrong), but I think its era correct. Someone with more knowledge should chime in soon.

You could find a nice jerry can pretty cheap and paint it to match, I think that would look pretty cool.

Just as red58 said. Definitely not G.M. or factory, its the base for a 5 gal. gas can.
The way gas is nowadays,,that would be like taping 30.00 cash to the side of your truck and walking away............
(15.00 for the gas and 15.00 for the can)

Actually it could be GM! It is a WW II and possibly later gas can holder.
Since GM made tanks, Jeeps, and duce and a half trucks which all used
"Jerry Cans," they almost surely made the holders, too.

I haven't seen one in years. Most of the metal Jerry Cans have rotted out
by now and I don't think the modern plastic cans fit the old holders.

You got the gas part right...5 gal. X $3 = $15 but I guess you haven't priced jerry cans lately...
Fancy one...

One from the '50's...

A new regular one...

I work for the military so I guess I'm used to seeing jerry cans everywhere, I wouldn't leave one full of gas sitting on my running board but for around $30.00 I still think an empty one would be a neat little Accessory.

Here's how the can attached to the bracket

Here's what it looked like.

I just happen to have 2 things: a 45 GPW with no jerry can bracket & $15.00. If you want to unload it, I'll give it a good home.
BTW that jeep in the pic is a Ford! Ya don't want to put Ford parts on your truck, do ya?
