hello:
i do not know if this is the proper forum to ask about installing an under the bed gas tank in a 65 chevy short step. if it is i would like to know-
1)which company would be the best resource for getting a good quality tank.
2)do the tanks come as kits with all necessary mounting brackets and hardware or is serious improvisation needed along the way?
3)is it possible to install the under bed tank in a 65 short step without having to remove the bed?
4)will the tank installation interferer with a dual exhaust?

thank you

1. LMC catalog or Rock Valley Custom tanks
2. It will come with brackets, you figure out how and what to hang it on.
3. Should not have to remove bed
4. Yes - need another exhaust routing

Where will you put the filler neck
Where will you put the spare
How will you run the fuel line
How will you cover up the old filler opening
What is the point of doing this

someone else has also mentioned "early classic enterprises"
they make under bed tanks in two versions one of which could potentially allow the passage of dual exhaust. there are three fill options. the kit is suppose to fit easily without the need to seriously modify. the company told me that i will have to run the fuel line and wires for the sending unit, are there any special problems i should be aware of when running the new fuel line?

i know there are many companies out there that make the same product which is why i have been asking advise as to which is best (quality is more important to me than a $100 savings). the reason i wish to do this is because i feel safer with the tank out of the cab, HOWEVER i do realize that there are two entirely different schools of thought on this.

I would simply cut the old fuel line at the point before it heads vertical to the old tank, use a compression fitting and splice in a new steel line along the frame and to the tank. You will have to wrestle with a steel line, but do not use copper. Or use stainless braided line, whidch is super $$$$ but easy to string out. Wires to the sending unit are no big deal as long as the sending unit is the proper ohm for your gauge. If quality is the most important thing to you, call Rock Valley.
