Tried searching first ...

I want to install a tilt steering column
in conjunction with the Toyota power steering
addition. Just curious if anyones used an Ididit
(or flaming river)and what their experiences were.

Thanks,

Keith

Keith,
I installed an Ididit tilt column in my 49 sub. Pricey but excellent quality. They also have just about any option cruise, wipers, flashers etc etc. Installation was easy and I am happy with it. Don't know about Flaming River.

Hey Weeds: Did you also have to buy a wiring harness, and installation kit, or was that all included in the Ididit price ? Or did the Ididit package include everything. Reason I asked is that LMC not only wants $100+ more than Ecklers for what looks to be the same tilt column, but then they throw at you another $200+ for the "installation kit". Thanks in advance.

Thanks for sharing- I must admit
I smile when I think of sitting behind a nice
tilt steering column-with a nice (and smaller)
steering wheel

Tim

The column comes wired if that's what you mean.
I don't have turn signals or a column shifter so I
don't need most of the options..although maybe it
would be a good time to consider adding turn signals.
I didn't know LMC carried them. CPP does also

Thanks,

Keith

i installed a flaming river steering setup in my 57, it fit the original steering mounts, now i did change where it went through the floor so sheet metal work was required in my case, but over all it was real nice setup, was kind of pricey though.

Tim, the Ididit column came wired for directionals and horn. Also came with flasher button, tilt lever and directional lever. I don't know what the installation kit consists of so I don't know about that. I used the original mounting bracket which I modified to fit and I had to fab a bracket where it attacches to the floor. Very happy with the whole thing. Weeds

You would think both Ididit and Flaming River kit would include mounting brackets for those "pricey" parts. I will be making that purchase in a few months and had thought about F.R. but I sure don't want to be fabricating sheetmetal to finish the job.

I'm committed to putting it in also..Sheetmetal?...you mean
where it goes thru the floor board? I've seen some nice billet stuff around somewhere..Could use the original piece from the stock column couldn't you?

A cheaper option would be an original-style steering shaft sold through Speedway Motors for about $119. It's chrome and nice looking, but does not have any extra features such as wiring or tilt.

Can't you get brackets with the kit? I would rather get both brackets with the kit than buying billet brackets that might not fit the diameter of the column. Also I think the painted columns look better than the chrome ones. However it's a timing thing with havening the column ready to paint when you cab is ready. Might be easier to just buy the chrome ones.

Yes. They sell a variety of brackets.
