Hello,
What can I use for an exhaust tubing so I can run my vehicle in a portable garage and live to tell it?

About anything that'll fit over the exhaust pipe and long enough to reach a door or window. I've heard of people using dryer vent hose. ohwell

I've been thinking the same thing now that it's getting colder. You could probably get a sheet metal fitting in the heating dept. of your local hardware store, that would fit the metal, flex type dryer vent hose, and still fit snugly over your tail-pipe. shouldn't be too $$ either!

I did some thinking on it. I am going to see if I can get two 90° bends, a short length of pipe to the floor and a 10 foot length of pipe out the side of the shed. So one elbow would fit over the exhaust pipe and maybe angle a short pipe 45° to the floor so that it is not just straight down, then the other 90° to point to the side of the shed, and the 10 foot length to go out the side of the shed. The truck will be in the same spot for awhile so the set up doesn't have to move any anyhow. I just about gassed myself out of there this morning. It had set for a while without running much and I may be getting some oil slipping past the rings. There was a tad bit of smoke in there.

Go to a FLAPS and get exhaust hose made for venting shops. It comes in several diameters so measure your exhaust first. May even want to hook it up to a squirrel cage fan to put a draw on it there's no leaking,

Or get the exhaust vent hose from McMaster Carr (see page 199) or type in exhaust vent hose in the search bar. They take credit cards and will ship to your house.

That way the hose wont melt on you and asphyxiate you.

That hose in the catalogue looks good, but I just went to Midas and got a pipe made. Works great.

Got a little nippy out the other day and I had to haul the hose down from the attic. I have a couple 10' lengths of heavy rubber 2” flex hose I got from the Chevy dealership I worked at 45 years ago, I'm surprised it's still flexible. It fits snugly over the AD stock tailpipe, if I remember correctly there were rubber adaptors (get biggers) available that fit the ends. I looke at McMaster and sutable tubing that would withstand the heat runs about $10 a foot today.

My problem is finding the metal spring-loaded feed-through that was mounted on the garage door. I left mine at the old house when I moved.

'Taint metal but a small pet door with the solid lexan door would probably work. ohwell

Denny,
Go to an overhead door company that does commercial work. They'll have them. I can also order them through our local Menards. That's where my doors and openers came from (you've seen them),

Hey thanks Scott,
I've got a Menards 10min east of me in Yorkville. I'll check in with them this week. I also have an overhead door company a few miles from there.
Still lookin for that 4.10 gear.
Thanks again.

I've used the hose from the shop vac. I also have 2" foam door sits on. I use the foam around the inside of door when closed. Anything to save heat $$$$$.

Do us all a favor and run one of those carbon monoxide detectors in your garage. That way we won't be having to tell your heirs what your truck is worth all disassembled.

Been researchin' this and Scott, yur right on as usual. McMaster has the hose and adaptors listed on their current catalog, page 199(winter 2007). They also have the 3" aluminum exhaust ports for $33 just like the ones I used to have at the old house.
I stopped at a garaged door shop and they wanted half a hundred and Mainards priced them at $45.
So I got another order into McMaster this week. Thanks for all the input.

Yep Josiah, I'd have to agree with that statement. We've/I've ran cars inside garages all the time in the winter but always used the proper size and material for ducting and made sure that there were no exhaust leaks. It scares me when I hear about using drier vent hose and some of the other stuff suggested that are not approved for venting exhaust fumes. That's just an accident waiting to happen in my opinion. It's a hundred buck investment that will last your lifetime. I've had a set of hoses for many decades now and they are still in good shape.

Its what I do....Been working with engines for a bit both personally and professionally, mostly on the R&D side or New Product Design. I am also in agreement - dryer hose is just an accident waiting to happen.

Next time I am in Aurora, will have to look you up.

Dryer hose? Never! I tried to use corrugated plastic hose that came with a sump pump. Got really hot and started to smell real bad. Changed my mind on that idea real quick!
