In process of restoring the stock 13 gallon under bed tank for my '48, however I am thinking now is the time to modify the tank for a larger supply line and a return line for future EFI installation.

Anyone out there use the tank as is for EFI? Or should I add another bung to the bottom next to the drain plug?

Also, since the truck came to me in pieces, any photo's of items that may get in the way of additional lines would be appreciated.

Scott

Don't know about the saddle tank but you can run that fuel line without any obstruction all the way to the front suspension.

I was looking at the chassis view on Chevs of the 40's to get an idea. Anyone make re-poped tank straps? or should I make my own? I am thinking I will add an extra bung and use the current pickup tube for a return.

OK, so I have a clean fuel tank now, and all the POR stuff a guy needs to seal the inside of the tank, as well as paint the outside of the tank.

The issue is, while looking at the tank, where it is mounted, etc. I come to realize if I switch to IRS or a 4-link rear, the tank has to go.

I am going to finish restoring the tank because it would be a wast of the last few days of wire-brushing, and de-rusting, however I may have to sell it.

has anyone done a 4-link with the stock rear tank on a '47 or '48? If so, let me know what you did, or send a picture.

another thing to think about (assuming you put in the EFI system, is you need a sump to ensure constant fuel for the pump... also, a baffled tank is a good thing too.

Another quality post.

Thanks Rusty, however BTDT. I usually use a small tank with the high-pressure pump connected to it to act as sump and extra reservoir when I add EFI. I feed this with the carter pump I usually use when the vehicle started life as a carb. For cheep, I pull these reservoirs from late model VW foxes (under the trunk). It is a 3.5 Bar Bosch fuel pump capable of supporting 400Hp, complete with reservoir, filter assembly, etc.

My concern now is the nice newly restored fuel tank is probably not going to fit with the planned suspension. I might have to go to a fuel cell located behind the rear axle
