1946 gmc canadian built
Can anyone help me , on the amount of front and rear spring leaves that were fitted to my old 46 when it came out of the factory ,its had a lot of changes over the years and i would like to put it back to original if possible
With the help of forums we have established thats its a 2 1/2 ton 9600 gmc which is close to a maple leaf chev 1600
currentley the spring setup is

Rear
2 1/2 inch x 50 inch
18 leaves main 9 helper
Front
2inch x 40 inch 9 leaves (Nearly Flat)

also
what was the standared size wheels
mine are a mixture at the moment 20` but some are 8.25 and 7.5

My 46 canadian 2 ton has 11 main and 6 overload on the rear. Same as yours on the front.Yours probably came with 700x20's for tires.Not easy to find anymore. JIM.

check the actual width of your wheels if they are the same width 7.50's might be the easiest to mount but they are more expensive. i mounted 8.25 radials in place of the bias 7.50's because i got a good deal on them. it was all i could do too get the radials compressed enough too properly assembly the lock rings. once they were assembled every thing seems fine but i certainly would not attempt 9.00X20 without going to a wider wheel.the 8.25's will raise your vehicle and give a somewhat larger diamiter a very slight advantage going down the road for your rpms.
