I think that the standard gear ratio for that year was a 3.90 if memory serves me correctly.

3.73, 3.07, and 4.11 are the listed options. There is a 3.90 listed as well, but I beleive that it may either be for the 4x4 option or possibly the Positrac option. The plant listed for the 3.90 is the Detroit gear and Axle (Eaton) instead of the Warren plant for the others (12 bolt).

In half tons(C10),the 3.07 was the economy six option, 4.11 was usually used w/3 spd/OD, 3.73 is the most common. The code should be stamped on top of the pass side axle tube.

Comes up as a '65-'66 3.73 axle according to my info. Perhaps it's been changed by a po?

It's the Catalog of Chevy truck ID Numbers, 1946-1972. Published by Cars&Parts. It is still in print. I got mine from WaldenBooks. It's alright by me if you can get the codes, I can break them down for ya!
