after contemplating my route w/ my newly acquired '50 1/2 five window shortbed project...I'm thinking of leaving the fram original, but would like to upgrade the rearend and scrap the torque tube. I'm planning to run a 327 small block backed by a th350 trans. Any thoughts on a rear end that has the same length would be very helpful. I don't need/want posi, but would like to run 3.55:1 gears. The later (6 lug) TrailBlazer axle is a bit wider than the S10, and the bolt pattern is not the same as the older trucks, so the wheels will not work on it.

I did a quick measure at the boneyard, but nothing technical. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | The bolt pattern is metric, comes out to just a bit over 5", rather than the 6 x 5 1/2" like the older 6 lug trucks. Wheel options for that pattern are somewhat slim, or at least anything that would look right on a 'Bolt. The Colorado/Canyon has the same axle.

Did you convert the front of your to 5 lug? Or could the Camaro axles be drilled to the correct 6 lug pattern? Yeah, I hear ya on the overdrive...I have a '68 SS Camaro w/ a th350 and 3:73s. I installed a Heidt's Mustang II IFS which is 5 lug disk. You might also look for a 95 Firebird rear. It will fit like the Camaro but will come with disc brakes. Also if you do get a Camaro 10 bolt you will find that the 2002 Firebird disc brakes will bolt right up to the Camaro axles.
