Here is the dilema:

My 3100 is completely dissassembled, less stock driveline, suspension, etc 3100 Album

I can re-bolt everything that I have together, however I do not have original driveline or suspension. On the flip-side I believe that someone out there has the answers I need

I am in process of building an IFS front X-member that I would like to work with minimal sheet metal interference as well as with both an I6, or V8(in the event I chose to make more than one and offer to the general public). Anyone have a pile of pictures and dimensions of an AD without motor and with the front sheet metal in place, or better yet, anyone near enough to green bay for me to visit?

I need to know how high above the frame that the stock fenders come. What will need to be trimmed to accommodate the upper a-arms.

I also need to know where the stock engine, engine mounts, steering, and front suspension sits (which I do not have).

I do have the CL location from front of the frame.

Yet more questions - cleaning my rad support, there is damage from prior owner disassembling with a gas axe

The questions related to this part only:
1.) Is/was there a weld nut on the back side?
2.) does someone have a view of a non damaged rad support?
3.) is the top edge bent?
4.) Anyone have a non-busticated one for cheep?

Scott, get a factory Assembly Manual. I saw 4 or 5 on Ebay for 25.00/30.00 the other day. You will really need one soon if not now.

I have a manual coming should be here any day, however still looking for an answer or two.

Scott my rad support is at the body shop and I'm waiting for my camera's battery to recharge. I'll go over and take a few close up shots for you today or tomorrow if you still need it.

FYI - acid bath works wonders. soaked for two days and hit with pressure washer. support looks good except the two torched holes and a missing pressed in nut retainer.

Does anyone know if these are available, or should I go with welding in a washer and weld-nut? :confused:

Anyone have a view from this angle?

Another question about my '48 Half-ton. Truck has the below box fuel tank. I am currently trying to salvage the fuel tank because I can not find anyone who makes these.

Am I missing a vendor? Wend through the LMC catalog, Brothers web site, Chev's of the 40's. All have the in-cab tank, however can not find the bellow box version.

Should I keep trying to restore this one, or should I just buy a fuel cell?

I think the behind the seat fuel tank was the standard issue for the 3100. Do you know if the PO converted to the tank you have. There are previous threads that discuss this topic.

No, the tank is original for the '47 and '48 year half tons, I can find pictures, etc showing the tank on vendors web sites, just no one has the tank.

I had planned on an aux tank in the rear and bought a Blazer tank which is 1/2 too wide. I have given up and will be ordering an aluminum custom built tank from Alumiworx.

Panels and Suburbans used that same under the bed tank all the way through '55 1st. I don't think you'll find one in a catalog, but knowing the broader usuage might help you find a good used one.

At nearly $700, I am thinking I try my hand at continuing to restore this one with the POR15 kit, if not, I can go the custom route or a fuel cell. The inside looks ok, a little varnishy, however the outside is rusted. The acid bath is running a little slow now that the temps are in the 30's. I picked up a stock tank heater to keep the thing from freezing tonight.

Anyone have luck pounding out dents out of a grill

Take it to a chrome plating outfit. They do that sort of thing.

The dulled chrome is fine for my plans for now, I was looking for suggestions from people who have successfully straightened these themselves without leaving hammer marks.

Plus if I succumb to a case of shipfitters disease, then the truck will never be rolling in time.

OK, so I have my shop manual...Nice looking fresh re-print. Not much help for my needs. While it tells me the sequence of removing items, it is a little light on exploded views.

Keep it. It is good for repairing stuff later on giving the steps needed to get the job done. It has some uses but for me the assembly manual is more useful. I thought you had one coming.

Yes, you do. And it also won't hurt to have a Motors Truck Repair Manual covering your year. You can't have too much info.

Another Question on my '48.

I will be getting a custom rad made up, however I am also sectioning my cab 2.5". How much room between top of stock radiator / hood latch plate and the stock hood as the sectioned area will be coming out of the hood in the front.
