Has anyone found a trailer hitch that will fit a Chevy 65 shortbed stepside. I'm trying to avoid modifying or welding up a new one. Any advice is much appriciated.
Thanks

A couple years ago I was checking out an off-road 4x4 shop. They had a "universal" hitch system. You simply picked one of four sets to configure for (theoretically) "any pickup, van, or SUV." So there are new hitches out there, but finding them may be a matter of luck.
There's also nothing wrong with havin a reputable FAB shop fabricate one. Where I work we build various hitching types for everything from city/state vehicles, to farm equipment, to large utility trucks.

I have one on my truck, and it says "Valley RV" on it. I haven't used it, but it fits well.

What about those heavy duty hitches, that mount to the frame rails... where you have the square tubing that the actual ball goes onto, and it is held in by a pin ? So that you can have different tubes with different size balls on them?

I forget the technical term for these.. there area few brands/makes of them though.

I have been pondering lookign in to getting one for my 65 longbed...

Might be worth taking out a tape measure and checking the width of the rails on your '65, then dropping by your local trailer shop or RV supply place and having them look for something to fit.

Some places won't sell you a hitch if you say you're trying to put it on something older than a '72. Liability, etc. so it's best not to mention the '65. Find out what vehicle the hitch is made for, then tell them that's exactly what you have... wink
