In that link Deve mentioned "for a perfect fit use 11/32 bit to drill out the hinge and a "R" bit to drill the hinge frame. Now I know this guy was working on a 50 model so the first question is the hinges the same? If so then the 11/32 bit is to drill out the hinge (PINS?) and the R bit to drill out "hinge frame"....WHAT IS AN R BIT?? and am i understanding the rest of this correctly about drilling out the pin. (what do you drill out on the hinge "frame". Does anyone understand what I'm asking or am I starting to ramble? Thanks | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | Originally posted by Achipmunk: WHAT IS AN R BIT?? That clears it up. I have my hinges out and I also have new hinge pins that I ordered. Before I go to drilling I want to make sure I'm doing it right as I only get one shot it. I've saved one of the old pins to compare with the new and even mic'd them with dial indicators to see the difference. Zookeeper: good reading on the link you gave me. I have put it in my favorites. I looked around for a while trying to find the "R" bit chart to see what "size" it is but didn't see that. I guess I just need to buy a "R" bit! From what I read the "center" moving piece of the hinge is to be drilled with the 11/32 bit so it will pivot easy and the R bit is to drill the top and bottom hole of the hinge to hold the ends of the hinge pins....correct? OR should the pin be stuck in the center hinge piece and pivot on the top and bottom holes? I understand whats being said....I just want to be dang sure which pivots, or turns, on the pin. You know, idiot proof it | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | I'd make the single center part the loose one

He also did mine, and they work perfectly. Be sure to use a drill press for this job. I am sure his website tells you that also. | | |
