My doors are rusted out on the bottom. Has anyone replaced these and how hard is it? Also there seems to be two size patch panels with the more complete running close to $140. At that price, used or repop shells start to get attractive, but are those the ones to use? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 180 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 180 | Used would be preferred over repop door shells. My doors are also rusted out on the bottom. Depending on the year of the door, if you happen to have the wing window doors, if the wing windows are in need of attention, thats something else to consider, as those are pretty expensive to replace parts for, also, is the glass good? do the windows roll up and down? If all of this stuff is needing replacement, a door shell would probably be the less expensive way to go, otherwise, I know they make outer door bottoms through like an LMC for maybe $30 each side and the door bottom ends and inside come as another piece and those are $35 if I remember right. Its definately yours to consider. Words of advice though that I see so many people try to do other ways, if you are fixing doors, make sure they are mounted on the truck so the door gap spacing can be obtained correctly and you are sure everything is lining up correctly, on the workbench door repairs NEVER turn out right. Good luck with the project

Next i treated with a product called Right Stuff picked up at local FLAPS. The existing door was flanged and new skin was tacked on. A little filler, some primer, sanding, a little more filler, some more priming and eventually some paint. Maybe some ideas for you in pics below. Good luck and have fun. It took me a while, but I found the correct door in better shape than what I had on ebay. That was with door handles, and all the "parts" for the door minus the hinges. It cost me 150 bucks total to buy it and get it from Ca. to Colorado. 4 quarter sized spots with bondo sand and paint. At 140$ for patches I like my way better. | | |
