I am interested in this subject as I have contemplated offering hinge rebuilds to bolters. If you read the articles on hinge repair, the first thing they say is, if the pin does not come out with a moderate effort..STOP.
Cease and desist on all beating and heating! Use a hacksaw and cut the pin in two places to facilitate the removal of the door piece from the post piece.
After you have two separate pieces, you can drive or press the pin out without destroying the entire assembly.
There are several good step by step articles on hinge rebuilding out there...maybe someone can provide a link.
Stuart | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 267 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 267 | well here is the update. after i asked this question , i went and beat the crap out of with a 3lb. hammer after it moved a little bit a ballpeen took it out just fine. believe it or not the pin looks good. on the 53 barn door hinge it has a trim cover to pretty up the hinge that is spot welded in 4 places. once i got that off i laid about 20 1 1/2" passes on the hinge bracket where it was just about rusted through.I ground it down and it looks pretty dang good if i have to say so myself any how thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!tom

| | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 267 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 267 | atomarc, i didn't see your post earlier .what i had going was the barn door hinges on my panel which has been in the weather for years.not exactly the same as a cab door hinge.it took a good solid smack with a blunt/flat tip chisle(not a pointed)to get it going. oh and a 3# hammer
