We are going to start a little "contest" to promote some activity in the clinic. For whomever asks or answers the most unique post or has an odd story or saga that's somehow door related, we have this travelmug to award. We'll announce a winner at the end of the month. If activity picks up, and is deemed a success, there may be more contests and prizes to be had. Good luck and keep it clean.

Hey Scott nice mug!!! Hope this is the correct place to post for the contest.
My entry is simple but something I found that most would never know.I wanted to put mirrors on both doors of my 61 and 60 half ton trucks and was trying to figure how to place and drill holes for proper aligned location so I took a door from a donor truck apart,I actually removed everything, glass, window regulator, door lock and link, and finally removed the outer door skin and was suprised to find the nuts already welded in place for the mirror.I have been working on these trucks since they came out in late fifties and had no idea that the doors come from the factory with those nuts already there.I suppose they put them in at the factory so they could add the optional right side mirror without to much trouble, just drilling the door skin and BAM a second mirror.SOOOOOO if anyone is looking to add that right side mirror and you want to get it in the right location just take the inner door panel out and feel back in there at the location for the mirror and you will find the weld nuts and that makes it simple to locate that second mirror to your truck.I checked all of my trucks and they are there!!!!!Hope this post helps someone.

On my 59 truck the passenger door had a brace in there for the exterior mirror, but no nuts. It was an easy install to drill through and then put nuts on the screws as they came through.

I added a mirror to the right side of my truck. 55 2nd series 1/2 ton 3200.

When I took off the inner panel there were no brace, bracket, or nuts. I measured the left side and duplicated its location on the right side. It worked out perfect. I can see out the 5 inch round mirror through the wing window.

Ah yes a door story. It was about twelve years ago,I was driving a 65 three quarter ton then with about seven different colors on her.this truck would be the transportation for a first date with a very sweet girl in the very rich part of the city and trucks like this in this part of the town were usally driven by (in there eyes landscapers, farmers or thieves!)well I am one of those, but I wont say which.so after I cleaned all of the manure out of the box I was ready to pick Gabriela up at seven and have her home before the sun came up.so I pull up to the waterfront estate to pick up my date ,park up on the street and throw a piece of wood under the right front cause the e brake well ya know!she see's the truck and say's WOW! were going in that, yes mam, don't worry it's never let me down.So off we go on our date,we are driving for about five minutes when I decide to have a little tobaco pleasure back when I smoked.grab the window winder give it a crank and BANG! the glass falls right to the bottom of the door and it is november so it aint to hot outside but the heater was still pretty good, but not good enough to keep my date warm,so I did what any gent would do and asked her if she would like to sit closer to me,she obliged and cuddled right up to me to stay warm, and that was the ice breaker to a two year relationship. the TRUCK brought us together the end! grin

Less than a week 'til it's over. Seems like it will be kind of easy to pick a winner, unless this picks up dramatically here real soon.

Just a reminder,
Scott

I saw Robby Krieger at the supermarket a few months ago. No sightings of Morrison though.

In 1971 in Virgina, I drove my Suburban for at least 6 months without a driver's-side door. I had a broken window and I had no money and even less common sense. The truck could not pass inspection with a broken window but it could pass the bi-annual inspection with no door. I got a junk-yard door before winter.

I think I remember this correctly but it is possible that my memory of events in the late-60s/early-70s is blurred for for reasons that I would prefer to leave unstated.

Now that I'm back in the saddle again, I can announce the winner of the contest.

The winner is "Bent", which was just sent an e-mail notifying him of this.

Stay tuned for more possible clinic contests and give-aways in the future.

Congratulations Bent and thanks to all who participated,
Scott
