I have my 1954 radio getting repaired when i get it back and i will put it in the dash I know the speaker sits above it but how is it mounted i have a feeling it mounts or screws into the top of the radio or does it screw on to the dash???? Thanks Peter

I will be watching for the answer to this, too. I have seen photos of the radio with the speaker mounting plate attached to the radio and I have read posts about the speaker being mounted up top in the cab.

I suspect it mounts on the radio. I'm going to get a new speaker for this radio And I don't have the mounting plate I thought I could attached it directly onto the radio grill on my dash with out butchering my dash.

truckernix - the TF series speaker mounts right above the rearview mirror in a special cover, I don't think any of the AD's were like that

I think trucker is right I know it mounts some how behid the grill next to the ash tray!!

The 1954/55 Chevrolet (Advance-Design) truck radio mounts on a plate that is attached to the radio.

The 1954/55 GMC (New Design) truck radio almost looks the same but (among other slight differences) its speaker has a mounting plate that mounts in the roof panel, just to the rear of the windshield.

I am not certain how the speaker wire is attached to the GMC radio. I have a 54/55 radio that has an RCA-type phone plug socket on the top of the radio for a speaker connection. This could be a GMC radio or a converted 1953/54 Chevrolet manual-tune automobile radio.

I would love to see pictures of the speaker braket if you have them. I will have to make one for mine. I found the knobs, speaker cover, radio glass,speaker, and radio mounting braket at bowtie bits, hope this help someone,

1954/55 Chevrolet speaker mounting plate. This plate was made out of 1/8" aluminum plate. The original plate was made of 1/16" pressed steel (with side edges turned to provide rigidity).

Are the Bow Tie Bits mounting brackets reproduction or used? Did they have the foam/rubber gasket for between the plate and the dash (54/55 rubber/foam is different from 47-43)?

Mounting bracket is (exact repro). Heavy chevy has foam different than 47-53 but no picture on web for 54/55.

I have a 55 2nd (Task Force) and the truck never had a radio or speaker. I have a radio and the speaker box but no speaker yet. Do you know if I can get a thin speaker so I don't have to cut a big hole for the speaker? I ask this because all the trucks I have seen have had a huge hole in the ceiling from the magnet in the speaker.

oldblue, mine is a 56... same thing - no radio. I don't believe the 55.2 and up ever had the speakers in the roof above the rear view mirror.... nor were they in the dash. Quite frankly, I'm not sure where they were. I'm planning on getting the kickpanels with the speakers inside them and augmenting them with additional speakers under/behind the seat.

Larry, the TF trucks did have the speaker above the mirror - sheet 3 shows the hole that needs to be cut for the magnet - I've never seen a speaker thin enuff to fit without the hole, but a good metal worker might be able to add on to the stock cover to make it deeper

I don't know about a Mono type speaker, but Custom Auto Sound has a stereo speaker that will fit without cutting any holes. I thought that I did see mono speakers for the original type radio, possibly from Harmon's, but I'm not sure of the fitment.
