White pine is usually a lot softer than yellow pine, which is why yellow pine was originally used on these trucks. How well it holds up will depend mostly on the finish used and on how much the bed is used like a truck.
We recommend making the wood blocks 2-1/8" tall since the cross sills are 1-7/8" tall. This makes the bottom of the bedwood 4" above the frame. The brackets on the rear sill are 4" tall and it all has to match.
Use the spacing of your bed strip holes in a cross sill or rear sill to calculate the width dimensions for the bedwood. If you use our formulas in the link above and measurements taken on your truck, the wood will fit.
