I have a 57 NAPCO panel with the original 4 speed tranny. There is an intermediate shaft between the tranny and the transfer case. So I'm looking for a 5 or 6 speed, 2WD tranny that will handle 6000 lbs. 3.91 gears, I'd be happy to have a bellhousing made. All the trannys I find don't look heavy enough to handle the load. Any suggestions?

Clark 5 speed from the same era? Most versions had fifth gear direct, but there was a version in which fifth was overdrive. They are pretty big though(used in the bigger trucks of that period) and getting hard to find.

Here's an ongoing thread on another board that may help. They list the Clark 5-speed model number that has OD. 280VO with .83 OD.

NV 4500 or NV 5600? Both are modern 5/6 speed manuals. Both should easily hold up to any motor of that era; they are used behind the cummins. Easy to adapt to 350-style bellhousing pattern. NV4500 rated at 19500# GVW, with .73 OD. NV 5600 rated at 26000# GVW, .73 OD. Just a thought.
