Is their a place online where I can enter the serial # off the truck to find out more information about it?

Thanks, i figured it was here somewhere, im new to the site and still learning it.

I got a number from the drivers side door hinge area. Is this what I am looking for to find out infromation on the model and year of the truck?

Also, where is the number usually located on the motor?

Engine # is behind the distributor on a 216-235, on the block. Should be a little flat spot, all covered with grease if your truck is untouched.

What year, make, model and # of cylinders are we talking about?

Its a 1948 Chevrolet Loadmaster Flatbed with an inline six.

Yep....look at the distrib. Clean the grease off on the firewall side. Should be #s under there. If you have the acorn nuts on the top of the valve cover, you are looking at a 216/235. If none are present, someone has swapped out the 6 for a newer one.

I don't know about your 48 since it is an AD, but a serial number plate on a 46 is passenger side inside the engine compartment on the cab.

Kyle, the serial number truck on your truck should be on the drivers door post. It is at the bottom of the tag.

I got 5RKA-1093 off the drivers side door post, could anyone please tell me a little about my truck, or where I can use that # to find information?

I always use Don Moen's Ultimate Recycler Page to do the serial number breakdown.

5 = Kansas City, MO assembly plant
R = This doesn't work, it should be F for 1948
K = Series 4400 (1 1/2 ton)
A = Assembled in January
1093 = 92nd truck off the line (sequential numbers start with 1001)

Thanks Jeff, I also read something on that page in the very fine print about what the "R" stands for. I is the year, but for the 1 1/2 and 2 ton Heavy Duty trucks. I appreciate the help.

Yep, my bad, I forgot to follow the asterisk on Don's page and read "Except 47-52 1-1/2 and 2 Ton Heavy Duty Trucks, which used Q, R, S, T, U, V to designate Year".

So the first truck off the line would be 1001 right? 92nd truck off the line is 1093? how's that work, which number did they skip? If numbering started at 1000 then that would be right, starting at 1001 just drop 1000 from the number, 93rd truck off this line. A little mistake I use to make too when decoding numbers, but when you see number 1002 and you tell them is was the 1st truck off the line..... the light came on of me then.

Did you find your engine serial number? What do you have under the hood of that rig?

Yes I did, It has a 216 with a wopping 90 HP. Its small for a ton and a half I guess, but it gets the job done.

I'd be REALLY surprised if a 11/2 ton ORIGINALLY came with a 216. The 235 would have been standard, me thinks, and is what is referred to as the LoadMaster. An even MORE whopping 93 Horsepower, although I think the Rochester carb and some other "refinements" early in the AD series were supposed to up the HP some - not sure when that happened without my lit-tra-ture in front of me.

My guess would be someone swapped in the 216 at some point.

Of course, my boss tells me I'm dumber than a bag of hammers, so take what I say with a grain of salt . . . ;-)

Ill see if I can find out if it was swapped. My greatgrandpa was the one who first perchased the truck, so I should be able to find out.
