Took it to town to have a full exhaust system on her. In the parking lot at the shop I was turning the truck around, hit the brake, peddle to the floor. Pumped it twice and the brakes came back. The shop fixed my exhaust and when I drove home the brakes did the same thing every time I came to a stop. Gotta tell ya it was a nervous ride home. I can't find any leaks, the master and wheel cylanders were rebuilt a couple of months ago and I have new hoses. Any ideas.

If the seals or diaphram are old and hard, they're an accident waiting to happen. Pull the M/C apart and check for pitting/scoring on the piston bore; brake fluid traps moisture and may be eating away the metal from the inside (especially if it's been sitting a while).
Recheck each wheel cylinder, they could be suffering from the same internal corrosion and spitting tiny amounts of fluid; and it's a good idea to completely flush the hardline and replace everything that looks "iffy."
edit: Josiah, I read the post to mean the brake went to the floor before the new exhaust was installed. :confused: | | |

If none, the try bleeding the brakes. If the m/c won't hold you'll have to work on it or replace it. You can rebuild it, but if the bore is pitted, it will have to be sleeved or replaced.

If the pedal slowly goes to the floor while you have pressure on the pedal or if you let up a LITTLE and then press back down on the pedal and it goes to the floor the seals inside the master cylinder are toast  DO NOT DRIVE IT until you get it fixed/rebuilt or otherwise. I would hate to hear that you lost the brakes completely and crashed your truck and you

Irebuilt all of the cylanders about 3 months ago and the truck was only driven a few miles since. I have tested the brakes during this period and they always worked and had good pressure. I'll try that trick of holding the brake down and see if it bleeds off.
