What a great feeling after 18 months. That 261 has a lot more zip than the old 235! I could feel the difference even with the longer gears of the 4.10. More later including pictures! I like my method of putting bolts, parts, etc. in Zip Lock bags with a card that says what they're for. I cleaned up the garage last night and found one Zip Lock bag that had a C-clip with a card that read "For Torque Tube End." Oops, I guess that holds in the bearing at the lower end of the torque tube. I gotta put that in tonight.
I'm getting together a photo gallery and will post the link when it is finished.
Thanks, again. 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.

The information about the torque tube is spread out in the shop manual. I found the drawing of the torque under Rear Axle and the info about the ball joint adjustment under the 3-Speed Transmission only. I have a 4-speed. I'll get a picture. 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. It's 2 3/4 in. in diameter. Am I right? 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years.
