The truck hasnt run in a decade, I just want to know what could be the problem and whats the steps to follow in order to find the problem..could it be something really simple..remember im a newbie  | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | If the tranny is mounted in the stock position and the shifter handle hasn't been re-bent, the shifter can't travel that far because it is limited by the length of travel of the first-second sliding gear. Once it slides into first position it physically cannot go any further. Therefore I'd suspect that at some time (mybe when the clutch was worn out) someone tried to force it into first and bent the shifter handle forward so it now hits the dash.

Post Pics of all and it will get sorted out. If you can see the u-joints and drive shaft, it is not stock. | | |
