Hey all,

I have an 89mm shifter handle that I want to remove from one shifter and transplant to another factory shifter. I removed the bolt and the shifter handle won't budge. How do I remove the old shifter handle? Does it have to be forced out?

Any help would be appreciated as I have a freshly rebuilt unit I'm ready to bolt in and roll.

THe shifter that came with mine had no bolt. It used spring clips on the side. Just slide a thin screwdriver down alongside the shifter to release the clip and pull the handle out.

I've tried everything and the shifter still won't budge. My shifter appears to be the exact same as your first one. I even took it to 3 different transmission shops and they had no clue.

I think it may be a common problem - mine looked like someone previously had gotten out their frustrations with a hammer. If you look into the "receiver" down alongside the stick, you should see a metal clip and a bit of rubber on each side. There is a barb in the center of the steel clip that engages a small recess in the stick. Use thin screwdrivers, slivers of sheet metal, a steel rule, whatever and slide it down next to the stick (both sides). You should feel when it passes and pushes back the barb. My shifter was different from Chuck's. Mine had two pins through it- punched them out and shifter lifted up just fine. Drilled out and replaced with bolts.
