The differences depended on application, but all you care about is if you have the right belhousing to go between the transmission and the V-8.
I don't remember if the change was for '62 or after '62, the later bellhousing fits both the six and V-8, the earlier does not, and you'll need a pickup type V-8 bellhousing to have the correct mounts to attach it to the frame.

You may need the bellhousing OldSub refers to and the engine mounts, exhaust, other small linkages if you are converting from a 235/261 engine to the 350 engine (or other smallblock V-8).
If your truck has the hydraulic clutch system, you will need to locate a bellhousing for the later style 6 cylinder or V-8 which also has the place to mount the clutch slave cylinder.
There is enough good in the worst of us and enough bad in the best of us that it does not behoove any of us to criticize the rest of us.

Your bellhousing and clutch will work just fine with the 350. Your motor mounts I think are the only item that may need to be changed if you have a 292 in there now. Since you have a 62 you also should still have the hydraulic clutch but all the clutch parts are the same between the 230/250/292 and the SBC. | | |

We're pretty sure this '62 has the 235. And, yes, it has the hydraulic clutch. Thanks for all the advice. It sounds like more work than I personally want to tackle, but you know teenagers have unlimited optimism!  Who knows? It could work....
