Does anyone know the actual weight of a GMC V-12.
I know it will run with power to only one coil and bank of cylinders eek grin cool I fired the beast up with hot wires to the coils.I forgot a return spring on the throttles(dual carbs)and it started to rev faster and faster really quick eek
I yanket the wires to the coils and only pulled one loose on the first yank.Left bank was still running and then I quickly yanked the second wire

Shipping weight from GMC was 1435 lbs. What you have there would be closer to 1500-1600 lbs.

So tell me a story about how you got this thing and what you think you mite do with it. It looks to be in better shape than my project motor.

Which I have mounted on a cut down horse trailer. More Photo of My Twin-Six Project can be found here.

Well, It runs really good(it does not want to stop!)
I am contemplating Putting it into a 2-ton truck and making a stovebolt retrieval vehicle.SOmething that can pull a fully buried truck out of the ground with a little torque to spare cool
It came out of a fire-truck which was getting a diesel engine installed. The fire-truck had documented 32,000 original miles.
This engine is COMPLETE from carburetors to starter to alternator and air compressor. It also has a transmission on it with linkages. I have not done a compression check on it yet but seems to run very smooth and no smoke other than what it burned out of the cylinders that I put into them.
When I went to get the unit, the guys who loaded it into my pick-up were thinking it was going to set my trucks frame down on the axles, they were a lot surprised(it didn`t even squat as much as I thought it would) grin
When it fired up, the whole house shook and the exhaust noise was a little loud eek (I stuffed rags in the exhaust after shutting it down to keep cold air from hitting the valves)
It sure put a smile on my face and made my heart beat a little faster cool grin

Yepper grin
What are you going to run with your project engine?

I noticed yours has the natural gas carbs where mine has the twin two-barrel gas carbs.

It would be nice to have a garage to work in, but I don't so IF I ever get my Twin-Six to run, it's needs one coil, and new wires, caps, points, well just a good old tune up, and then figure out how to or if propane will work with the carbs I have, or if I will be need to find and install Gas carbs, and then I still need to see if I can even turn it over by hand, I don't have a big enough brake bar at home.

I have it sitting on the trailer so the Rockford drive unit is on the back, and I'm thinking of building a tractor type PTO output shaft for it, then I could run the water pump at the lake or any of the other tractor powered equipment on the Farm here. If I find a genset of something like that than I would try running that with the engine. I know these things are Fuel Hogs, so putting it in a truck for daily use is out of the question. Back in the 60s I don't think fuel cost was an issue.

Turning it over with an 18in. 1/2in.drive breaker bar worked on mine.
The engine I have has a big 6 speed (I think) now removed.I think the tranny weighs around 250 to 300lbs itself. I am wondering if I can mate a Hydramatic to the rear of the engine(just curious)
Other thoughts were to see how difficult it would be to mount it in a 49 GMC 3/4 ton and drive it to Andy`s next August grin
