For those who have stock rear bumpers on their 1/2 ton '54 or '55 1st series, can you tell me the distance from the lower edge of the rear pan/bed support to the lower edge of the rear bumper? Maybe this is the same for the pre-'54 trucks. I need this info because I am trying to run my dual exhaust but I don't have my rear bumper yet. I don't want to have clearance problems and I don't want to run the tailpipes any lower than I have to. Thanks in advance.

Hey that is pretty important, I would get the bumper first. I guess a measurement would work.

Someone with a stock bumper will have to tell you.

I checked on my '53 with stock rear bumper and the tops of my pipes are 5" below a line stretched across the bottom of the end of the frame rails. They clear the bottom of the bumper by about half an inch. Not sure if 54-55 are the same bumper brackets.
I agree with Tony that the bumper on first would be a good idea. You could stop at the mufflers until the bumper is on before adding the tail pipes and adjusting the hangers. - Pete

I know the 54 stock bumper is different in some ways from the other years.
