For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 175 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 175 | I bought a new water pump from Jim Carter for my 49 1/2 ton (original 216). The diameter of the hub on the front of the pulley is slightly larger (1/4") than the one I am replacing and the fan blade will not seat. The rivets holding the blades together hit the hub and wil not let it go to place. Anybody had similar experience. The old one is stamped GM and has been welded to repair so I assume it could be orig. Do I have to change out the pulleys? Why do the replacements not fit? If so, that side goes toward the pump. If you are having problems, give Carter a call and ask. You might to want to wait until Thursday to call, they have a funeral for one of his staff Wednesday.

My fan (original I think) has round heads on both sides but the configuration of the blades (offsets of the blades) only allow it to mount one way. The sales person I talked to about it was not real helpful. She did measure the diameter of another pump and it was the same as she sent me. Her suggestion was to change the pulley. I subsequently talked to Chevs of the 40's and they had a pump with a diameter hub that I think will fit my fan---so I order it. Will return the one to JC if that is the case. | | |
