I noticed that Bill Miles GMC motor has(Hi Bill) the oil filter on the passenger side attached to the block. The Chevies are on the driver's side and clamp to the manifold.
1.a. Can a clamp on style be utilized on a GMC?
b. can a clamp style be bolted to the block
without the clamps a la Bill's?

2. If so, was that style used originally in GMC?

3. where do the lines hook up?

2. AC drop-in cartridge type mounted on a triangular bracket using three side cover bolts.

This is how the two GMC 228's I have are set up. I think this is only a GMC setup too. I have never seen one on a Chevy that came off a GMC engine. I am not sure the bolts would line up and then there is the location of the filter lines too. Different on the Chevy engines.

There are four holes in the bracket of a GMC style oil filter. The GMC and the Chevy engine used two completely different styles.

Remove the upper and lower two bolts in the front side of the push rod cover and the holes will line up to bolt on the filter canister..

Originally there were flex lines that connected the filter to the block. I used steel line for mine. My thought was that the canister was bolted to the block so the vibration would be non-existent...
