I have a 71 C-10 that's been sitting for over a year while I've stripped down and restored the whole body. I did not touch the drivetrain because it ran and drove flawlessly. Today I decided to fire it up for the the first time in about 15 months. After changing the oil and priming the fuel system (which I completely drained), it fired right up and ran fine after blowing out a couple minutes of cobwebs! So then I try t pulled it down into 1st gear (3 on the tree), but no dice! Thought the ole linkage was jammed but it wasn't. :confused:
My thinking is the clutch disc somehow glued itself to the flywheel. Anybody ever have this problem? If so, any easy solutions without having to pull the whole tranny and clutch out? I've had several other manual trannied old vehicles that sat for extended periods of time and never before experienced this!

Block the front wheels....Jack up the rear and support the chassis well

NO CINDER BLOCKS!!!

Put the truck in gear.....Start the truck.....push the peddle in and out several times....Try to change gear.....if it grinds turn off the motor and repeat the first stuff......Push the clutch in an goose the motor a little Use the brakes a touch ...whatever feels like it's working
This should free the plate......but It may not be good and need a new disc and flywheel surface anyway....

That happens to one of my trucks sometimes after a winter sleep.I don't jack it up,put the tranny in first gear,engage the starter,the truck moves a foot on the starter power, engine catches,you're motoring.Now just push the clutch to the floor and bump the throttle pedal until it frees.Some times ya need 3 feet, on on the gas, one on the clutch,one on the brake .
Of course the above won't work if the truck doesnt have free driving space.

Please jack the truck up

I had a friend in Laguna Beach that did this the "Tony Way"
The truck took off and pushed a car thru the rear of the garage and down a hill into PCH

Don't know about that but when I finally got this truck to the point of being "done",after waaaaaay too much time trying to get around to finishing it, then this happened, I got drunk!

By the way, this truck is neither from Texas nor Massachsetts! :rolleyes: In fact, I painted it blue AND gray!

Actually, I think it came from Ohio, since there's somthing "stuck" on this machine! :p

Since I can't recount anything like this happening late..ly, I think I'll name my truck Later..Nader!

The way ive always freed them up. Put the trans.
in high gear. Prop the clutch pedal down or have
someone sit in & hold it down. Push the truck
back & forth. This will usually solve it.

Hey Wrenchbender, tried your method first and after several attempts it finally popped loose! Took the truck out for a spin and everything works as flawlessly as it did when I last drove it! Even had the wife take a couple pics of my ugly mug beside it. Ran the batteries dead in the camera though so I'll have to recharge them before I can download the photos!
