After getting the axle positioned properly I spent the next 3 hours trying different techniques for attaching the rear spring assembly, and this is the one that worked well ....
1. Attach the swivel bracket to the springs.
2. Attach the springs and swivel bracket to the axle bracket. Do NOT tighten the bolt, just put the nut on it.
3. Attach the front of the spring to the frame bracket. Do NOT tighten the bolt, just put the nut on.
4. Attach the shackle. Tighten the bolt to about 10 foot/lbs per shop manual.
5. Go back to the front frame bracket and tighten it per shop manual.
6. Tighten the swivel bracket bolt.
With no weight on the rear end of the frame, the bottom of the rear shackle is aligned in front of the top of the shackle. When you apply some downward pressure it moves to the rear as it should.
I also pre-greased the bushings and bolts.
I won't be working on the "Bolt" for a few weeks, as the wife broke her ankle last night and I am now training to become a domestic robot ...... yes dear, yes dear. Microwave ovens are invaluable! | | |
