Forgot to put this question in my other post, getting old I guess. Its a 52 with at 61 235, the problem is I have to pour gas in the card to get it to start. Once it starts its fine the rest of the day. If it sits for about 4 to 6 hours or more its back to pouring gas in the carb to start it. Does this sound like I have a leak in the fuel line somewhere? It dosen't leak fuel but maybe it gets air in it somewhere. I've replaced the fuel filter, the card is new, did it with the old carb also.
Thanks for all the support in getting her back on the road.

If it ain't broke I ain't worked on it.

Maybe work the throttle and look down the carb to see if the accelerator pump is squirting gas. Can you take the top off the carb to see if there's gas in the bowl after it sits? There's also a check valve (or maybe two) in the fuel pump to prevent the backwards flow of fuel. Maybe it needs a fuel pump.

Could be what you have is a heat problem. Is the heat from the exhaust manifold cooking the gas out of the carb? You might have to wait for really cold weather to prove that idea.

Is the carb base insulator in place?
If it is missing, it may cause too much heat transfer and cooks the fuel out of the carb as kedso said.

It does have the insulator plate in place, looks like it may be the fuel pump then. I checked the accelerator pump and it is squirting gas fine after it I get it running and shut it off. I try the fuel pump, there not to expensive. Thanks everyboby. Sure helps to get advice from people who have been there before. I'm a rookie at this but it is sure fun and I'm learning a lot.

You might want to check the position of the exhaust flapper. The counter weight should be turned all the way counter clockwise. You may have to look at someone else's engine to see where it should be.

I have notice that with my truck I have a similar problem. I have yet to take notice to how quickly this happens as I don't get to work on my truck as often as I would like. However, I have a clear fuel filter placed in front of the carb. When ever I let the truck sit for a while (usually a couple of days). The filter is empty. I suspect that the Carb (Rodchester B) is leaking. I have fuel in the fuel bowl of the fuel pump.

I suspect willib that you have a combination of things happening. One is heat is vaporizing some of the fuel, secondly you maybe leaking some fuel, and lastly the fuel pump may have a faulty check valve. I replaced my fuel pump last year and it cost me less then $20.00 at the local Ma and Pa parts store. Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks for tips. It does have a manual choke, its a 1 barrel Rochester. It's new from Chevy duty, the old one did the same thing so I hope 2 carbs don't have the same problem. It dosen't appear to have a leak, at least from the outside. I'll start with the fuel pump, as soon as I get my starter problem resolved.
