Hello all. Can anyone give me a good baseline for setting the timing on a stock 350 with an automatic and an 600cfm edelbrock and a hei dist? I also need to know how to adjust the valves on this engine and they are hyd. What is the idle set at also? How much oil pressure should I have? The engine is out of a car but is in a 64 truck now, its a 350/300hp.One more thing,is there a modulator valve that is adjustable so that it can be adjusted so the trans does'nt shift so soon? Thanks for any help on this guys,Philip

Well, at the risk of being kicked off the board, I will confess that my 50 gmc now has a 350 with HEI and 600 cfm carb. Funny how so many of us thought the same thing was cool. I woulda rebuilt my 228 in-liner if the block hadn't been cracked. I did a fair amount of research/tinkering when I first fired my 350 to figure out what to set the timing, since I put in a mild cam, it was necessary to move the timing to around 14 degrees advance. I think the factory spec was 8 degrees, and it would barely run. Good luck on yer truck.

Most aftermarket trans vacuum modulators are adjustable with a small screw in the vacuum port. I forget which way to turn it for later shift, but there should be instructions with it.
