What's the word on the street regarding the mid 1960's vintage 366 V-8 engines? Good motors? Strong with lots of life with proper care or dead after 50k miles? Overhaul parts readily available? Any feedback would be appreciated!!
Thanks, and have a great day!!

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I had already done the search and found your post, but as I read it appeared to become a [censored] session rather than a thread with technical information, specs and real world data about the engine.
Just trying to stimulate some of that...
Thanks again!! | | |

On the other hand, the 366 is just a rat ayway, all others are so well loved, why just this one would be the worst engine in town? may eat cams as all other bigblock chevies, may have the flow in the head limited by the small bore, and may have some lubrication troubles in the distributor, but I'd not say it's a piece of junk. Just my 0,02.

Actally a couple of our trucks had them. The would work circles around the 350 chevy's the other trucks had. More power and better fuel economy to boot. These trucks were worked hard for 4-5 weeks a year and then sat alot. We had little trouble with them. Certainly less than the small block engines.

For a light truck I'd opt for the 366 over the 350 any time. Well, being a sick guy like I'm I'd really opt for something a li'l bit bigger. Maybe a 454. But the fact that there was a 637V8 truck engine, I'd end up with the 637. If I were in U.S., of course.
