Thanks for the reply, Im going to pick up parts from a similar bus (58 chev) so I'm hoping to match up some rims, see'n as mine are not. Maybe my fronts are 17.5 and I just seen the 17 and thot to myself "crap more mysteries to figure out" ....at any rate, Thanks again Max | | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 161 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 161 | I have a 1959 1-ton, and my wheels are stock, using 8-19.5 front and rear. looks great. to get them call a heavy-duty tire shop | | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 292 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2007 Posts: 292 | 8-17.5 is the one tire size but it's almost non-exsistant. . . 8-19.5 is still around tho knowen now as 8r19.5. . . all the tread esign's they have now for that size are junk. . . . if it's 2 wheel drive run 8R19.5 good year G633's on the rear and a 245/70R19.5 on steer's if you got dual rear wheel's. . .front tire's will be a bit shorter but alot wider will give the truck a tough look. . .other wise on singel rear wheel truck you should use a set of 265/70R19.6's all around. . .
if you find any 8-19.5 biasply Mud tire's let me know i'll buy 60 of them . . .
the tire's i'm looking for are :
Firestone super all traction. General super all grip. Goodyear custom extra grip.
run the 19.5's they'll last you a life time. . .
17.5's are about exstincted. . .

I like the look of the 19.5s on the rear (they fill the wheel well, nicely), but I think they look goofy on the front. I found a pair of 16 split, from a 58ish 1 ton(I assumed they would be 17.5 ),but used them to get the bus a bit more to an original ride height(temp) I did manage to find another 17.5 split rim. so I'll be looking for another 1, if anyone has an extra (has big rounded bead). And I have the 2 19.5's (not split rims)for sale w/rubber (not mudders, sorry Mike)LOL. I did find a great site that sells Vintage Tires. The prices are GREAT!! and the tires are PERDY! http://universaltire.com/ I dont know if anyone knows about it, but theres the addy. enjoy and thanks again | | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 292 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2007 Posts: 292 | NOT Mudder's Damnit. . . I get mine used at a tire place down the road here that does a lot of business with RV'ers. Apparently that is a common size for many RV's. I get take offs with 70% tread remaining for 35 bux mounted and balanced. Speaking of which...I need to get a couple more soon. Got a couple that are getting some bad weather checking.

Oly thats cheap, I inquired at a tire shop before I got the bus home. they wanted 125 each...USED I then found the vintage tire site and thot why pay that when I can get new PERDY ones for 116. but i think I'm gonna go with the 17.5s They just "look" right and are a few dollars cheaper | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 11 | Oldgmc...I think, I might, maybe know of at least 2 stock rims that would look awsome on your truck  LOL | | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 292 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2007 Posts: 292 | 17.5'S ?? If I ever change tire size, I'd forsure go with the 19.5s, then turn it into a duellie. But thats another future battle LOL
tell ya what if ya got a few 17.5 rims, with the big rounded bead. I'd consider trading for my 19.5's can you imagine the shipping charges!? | | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 292 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2007 Posts: 292 | I some 17.5's but htey dual rear wheel rims. . .

I never heard of such a thing, mind you, I am new to this restoration thing. I'm trying to imagine my bus with duelies on it. Any idea how wide of a space is needed to fit them, my wheel wells are fair wide, but I dunno if its enough to fit duellies under, and is the rear end the same, or is it different for the extra width? I think it look great tho. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 11 | Oldgmc...I dont have much experience with tires, but my 19.5s are HUGE!...with the original GOODYEAR rubber on them, they measure about 34-35 inches across. Personally I like the look of the 17.5s on my bus, they fill the wheel well, nicely. I looked at your pics, are those the tires in the back of the truck? Good lookin tires, try them on your truck and see what you think, then imagine BIGGER (19.5s) And ask yourself, "what am I going for, with this truck?" restore, semi-restore, modded. You may decide the 17.5s are what you want. | | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 292 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2007 Posts: 292 | i got 4 8-17.5LT snow tread's 2 highway tread's mounted on 17.5 dually rim's. . .

The truck is a one ton 5.14 rear so figure the 19.5s to help with highway speeds as to use plan to use it as a local parts runner and maybe a back up tow vehicle to my 79 K35. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 11 | oldgmc...rip off your rear fenders, add some metal to extend them further out, and add some duellies. I think theres someone on this forum who has a few kicken about. LOL Actually I think it would look awsome! Something I'd try...iffn I had a pick-up | | |
